56 YEAR OLD SHIP IN TORBAY.
In 1966 the C6 general cargoship President Monroe 16,819gt entered service for American
President Line.In 1972 she was lengthened and converted to a containership with capacity
for 300 teu.In 1980 she was aquired by U.S. Military Sealift Command and became part of
the Ready Reserve Force.In 1985 she was renamed GEM STATE and fitted with 3 x Twin
30 ton cranes on the starboard side as an Auxiliary Crane Ship. She is 1 of the 3 Keystone
State Class now based at Alameda.California.She had come from Nordenham,Germany
with no destination and anchored in Torbay this morning.She may be sheltering.
